J.C. Newman announces Tampa Smokers, which comes in a 6 x 52 and a 7-inch baseball bat. It features an Ecuadorian Shade wrapper, Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and filler tobaccos from Latin America.
The cigar is a tribute to baseball and will ship this month to 200 premium cigar retailers in the 30 Major League Baseball cities, including Newman’s hometown of Tampa, in time for opening day of the new baseball season.
Tampa’s first baseball team was named the Tampa Smokers, and several eventual major leaguers played on the team, including Al Lopez, a Hall of Famer and the son of cigar workers.
“Baseball and cigars are two of America’s historic pastimes,” fourth-generation owner Drew Newman said in a press release. “It is only fitting to celebrate the new baseball season with a special cigar that honors Tampa’s first professional baseball team, the Tampa Smokers.”
